In the Beginning
It all began 80 years ago when Mother Mary Joseph Rogers, foundress of the Maryknoll Sisters said, "Let's see what God has in store for us." With their broad vision and serving heart the Maryknoll Sisters came to Hong Kong and chose education as their priority. In 1925 a small kindergarten with twelve students was founded. From that tiny seedling has grown the tree that has nurtured thousands of young women over the decades. Maryknoll Convent School is now a well-established and respected institution in the community.
"To home, to country, to the world..." the Maryknoll Sisters have inspired all those whose lives they have touched. Over the years, generations of alumni, professional teaching staff and supportive parents have rallied to the Maryknoll spirit and made invaluable contributions to the School. Thus blessed, the School has gone from strength to strength. The outstanding academic achievement, the School's agility in keeping pace with the changing demands of the time are possible only through this cooperative partnership.
Now the Sisters are asking all those whose lives they have touched to take up another level of commitment. The Sisters ask that we assume the responsibility of leading the School into the future, that we ensure continuity of quality education and the Maryknoll traditions and culture established by the Sisters.
Preparatory Work
In response to the Sisters' call, a group of alumni and former principals of Maryknoll came forward to work with the Sisters. They aim to design a perpetuating entity, transparent and inclusive, with wide representation and participation.
During the three years of preparatory work, the Sisters and the dedicated group revisited the Vision and Mission of the School, referred to the then Education (Amendment) Bill, consulted with the Church and the Government, sought professional counsel and hammered out the Constitution of the Maryknoll Convent School Foundation.
The Maryknoll Convent School Foundation
The Foundation will be the School Sponsoring Body of Maryknoll Convent School responsible for supervising and overseeing the operation and administration of the Primary and Secondary sections of the School.
The Foundation is a company limited by guarantee and a non-profit charitable organization. It is to be self-financing with funding derived mainly through membership fees. It allows for wide participation and representation among former teachers, alumni and parents. The Sisters are the founding Subscribers.
Membership of the Foundation
There is no limit to the number of Members.
Ordinary Membership is open to Maryknoll Sisters, all former teachers and former students who have completed at least one year of study at Maryknoll. They shall have the right to attend and speak at the General Meetings of the Foundation and to vote at such meetings.
Associate Membership is open to parents of former or present students and to the spouse of Ordinary Members. They shall have the right to attend the General Meetings but may not vote at such meetings.
A membership fee is payable through either annual subscription or, in the case of Life Membership, a one- off payment. For healthy operation, the Foundation hopes to maximize the number of Life Members.
The Maryknoll Convent School Educational Trust, set up in 1992, will continue to be the fund-raising vehicle for meeting the needs arising from the operation of the School. However, donations to the Foundation are welcome to meet its operational expenses.
Members wishing to be more closely involved with the School can stand for election as Executive Members or join the working committees to be set up by the Council.
The Council, at the helm of the Foundation, consists of 15 members to be elected by the Executive Members or appointed by the Council. The founding Council is appointed by the Maryknoll Sisters.
Working Together
The Foundation will work together with our strong team of professional staff, the School Management Committees, the Educational Trust, the Former Students'Association and the Parent Teacher Associations which have served the School so well over the years. Together, we continue to strive for excellence, uphold our Mission and Vision and keep the Maryknoll spirit alive.

"As one lamp lights another nor grows less,
so nobleness enkindles nobleness."
